In the episode being filmed — airing this Monday at 8/7c — one of the DEO’s human heroes is blindsided by a blast from the past, setting the stage for a well-meaning but at-times tense team-up.
“This episode is called ‘Alex,’ and there’s a guy who comes back from Alex and Kara’s past,” Chyler Leigh shared with TVLine in between scenes. “In the [Supergirl] pilot, you saw a young Kara miraculously save a girl from car. Well, this one guy saw her do it, and knowing that she had these powers, he figured out that Kara is Supergirl.”
Seeing an opportunity, this man puts in motion a “big, elaborate setup” that targets Alex and compels Supergirl to spring a dangerous individual from prison. When Alex goes missing during this ordeal, it will take the combined efforts of two of the people closest to her to hopefully save the day.

What can you share about Supergirl, more specifically Season 2, Episode 19? Anything you can give away about Alex/Maggie/Kara ? —Lisa
As revealed in the synopsis for the episode “Alex” (airing May 1), the titular DEO badass is kidnapped, leading Kara and Maggie to find her — if, that is, they can agree on how to go about doing that. “They both have such strong feelings for Alex, and they’re both strong opinionated women who really are passionate about their work,” Floriana Lima shared with me between takes of filming the episode. “So they’re going to butt heads a little bit.” Adds Melissa Benoist: “They don’t necessarily agree on how to deal with the fact that the person that’s the most important to both of them is missing and in danger.”
Sanvers fans, get ready: The oft-teased episode 19 of Supergirl is nearly here and it’ll be a big one for Maggie and Alex.
As previously reported, the upcoming episode features Alex (Chyler Leigh) in serious trouble, and it’s up to Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) to team up and save her, putting the Sanvers relationship to the test.
“Episode 19 is a very big episode for the both of them just because it comes to dire circumstances, where it’s a situation of a rescue,” Leigh told EW on our SiriusXM radio show Superhero Insider. “It causes Kara and Maggie to have to rely on each other to figure out what happened to Alex… You have to see how they work together, and you have to see how they’re both fighting for the person that they love, that they care about, and how that can take a toll if you have differing opinions, different ways that you kill aliens. It’s this really great example of how deep all of the relationships are, but it really does put Maggie and Alex to the test in a very great way, but it’s rather dire.”
